Organization Skills

Successful transition from elementary school, through middle school and into high school will depend greatly on a student’s ability to manage him or herself independently and keep both physically and mentally organized.    A disorganized student will find it increasingly difficult to be successful regardless of his or her natural abilities.

Students will be introduced to various strategies designed to help students develop their organizational skills so they can organize their lives and manage their time more effectively.

We will work with each student to establish his or her personal SMART goal for the term and discuss the behaviours and habits that will be required on a day to day basis to achieve that goal.

Planning skills such as task analysis, prioritizing, and time estimation will be taught along with the hands on skills such as developing an organization system, and physically organizing notes and binders. We will show students how to break down large projects into smaller, more manageable chunks, and teach them strategies for completing a project on time.

Every week the coach and student will work collaboratively to break down all that is required to be completed for the week ahead and create a plan that incorporates his or her academic and personal schedules.  The goal is to demonstrate how students can take control of academic success by moving away from a reactive crisis management and toward a more proactive approach to school.
