Due to recent events and the resulting social distancing measures and school closures, StudySpot has transitioned our Academic Coaching support so as now to be delivered online.

Session Structure: The structure of the online session will be similar to that of the in person sessions where we focus on the organization/planning skills first then move to the practical application of academic skills, applied to the students’ current school work.

Additional Resources: Coaches will continue to utilize the Study Skills Manual and will have access to electronic versions of all the paper forms and templates typically used during coaching sessions.  However coaches will now have access to additional online tools and resources such as a whiteboard, screen share annotation, shared documents, and video, to facilitate the coaching sessions.

Convenience: Online sessions will make finding a convenient time for sessions easier as we will not be limited to the hours of the local library or geographic constraints.  Eliminating travel time will result in greater availability for both students and coaches.

Multiple Sessions per week: The most significant impact of online sessions will be the ability to schedule multiple sessions per week if desired.   The flexibility of on-line meetings will allow for a schedule that includes a “primary” work session followed by shorter “check-in” session(s) throughout the week if needed.  This is will be a more effective structure to support students  with weak executive functioning, then the typical once a week format.

School Closures and Independent Learning:  During school closures, our coaches may be in a position to support your son or daughter during the day and multiple times per week if needed.  Although it is unknown what form learning will take place in the weeks ahead, it is likely that it will require independent initiative and self directed behaviour on the part of the student.  This will be a challenge for many, if not most, middle and high school students.   Our coaches can help your son or daughter manage this unstructured time during the day.  The coach can guide him or her to work independently whether it be assigned homework/assignments via Google Classroom, or a transition to online courses.

Scheduling: Online sessions can be booked in 15 minute increments with 30 minutes being the minimum length of an online session.

  • Our daughter feels much more confident and on top of her work and comments often about how strong her marks have become. She feels that her sessions with you have been a big reason for the turn around.

  • Thank you very much for providing such a very helpful facility for my daughter. She has benefited so much from the program, not only for her present situation but I think for life. Your coaches were excellent and they gave her the motivation, guidance, self-confidence and self-esteem that she lacked.
